He would usually do so during hikes and while staying at the vacation residence Bahati in Switzerland. However, he never truly enjoyed the taste of the pipe. Around the age of 65, he decided to quit smoking altogether. He particularly enjoyed reading to his 5 grandchildren. Now, he reads to his wife Susi for about an hour every day from a book.
